Modern houses are universal because they fit perfectly into any environment. They adapt equally well to rural areas as to small urban lots. For builders of modern solid houses the design possibilities are almost limitless, as they can be optimally planned right from the start. Modern houses can be made as different types of houses. With us you can choose between a bungalow, a city villa or a cube house (Bauhaus style).
Flat roof on modern houses
When looking for the right roof shape for a modern home, the flat roof is also an option. The flat roof with its clear lines is extremely popular in modern homes. Contrary to what the name flat roof suggests, this type of roof is not 100% flat, but has a slight slope of 2 to 10 degrees. This means that snow and rainwater cannot accumulate on the roof surface and simply run off.
No sloping ceilings means maximum living space
A flat roof house impresses not only with its elegant appearance and modern design. Unlike the classic house with a gable roof, this house offers the full height of the room, even on the upper floor, because there are no sloping roofs. The advantage: with full floors you can make optimal use of the space and benefit from a larger living space.
Flexibility in the floor plan
Modern single-family houses with flat roofs have even more advantages. Flat roof homes have a more flexible floor plan than almost any other type of construction. This is particularly advantageous for modern living concepts with multi-room use. The floor plan of all MARE homes can also be adapted to your personal housing needs.
Various possible uses of the roof surface
Flat roofs can also be designed so that they not only serve as weather cover, but also offer other attractive uses. How about, for example, a beautiful roof terrace or a small roof garden as a recreation area? A lush green roof or accessible parking are also possible. Use the roof space according to your individual ideas!
An important decision: construction
When designing a modern house with a flat roof, there is the possibility of a wooden frame or a reinforced concrete ceiling insulated from above. In the wooden variant the slope is created together with the construction and the insulation is laid in between. The airspace above must be sufficiently ventilated.
In reinforced concrete constructions the slope is created by the insulation applied on top. The advantage of this construction is that under the insulation there is a large mass with a lot of inertia. This is especially beneficial for heat protection in summer. The load capacity of this construction is generally higher.
So, if the upper ceiling is straight, then the version with a reinforced concrete ceiling is, in my opinion, the best thermal insulation. This means that moisture cannot penetrate your home.
Nowadays, a professionally installed warm roof is more often preferred. This flat roof structure has an additional advantage: protection from summer heat is significantly better if the roof and insulation are located on a reinforced concrete ceiling.
Proper insulation is everything
Unlike gable roofs, flat roofs do not have a shed roof. Instead, their seal is flat and seamless. With this type of roof it is important that a specialized company carries out the insulation and roof sheathing with care and precision. After all, the roof must withstand greater loads than a gable or hipped roof. The charges include:
- snow weight
- Temperature change
- More time
- Weight of a roof terrace
- Windsor
