Energy saving in residential construction is an extremely important topic. This mainly refers to the building technology, which can cause the greatest energy losses. To save on heating costs and save a lot of energy, we recommend installing a gas condensing boiler. These are usually wall-mounted appliances intended exclusively for the production of hot water or heating or for combined use for the production of hot water and heat (so-called combined boilers). Jens Taube explains what makes a gas condensing boiler special and why it works so efficiently.
How does a gas condensing boiler work?
The gas condensing boiler – as the name suggests – obtains heat from the combustion of gas. The highlight is that this process is significantly more efficient than condensation technology because condensation technology uses the waste gases produced. For this purpose, the so-called heat exchanger is used, through which the heat from the exhaust gases is fed back into the heating circuit. This way there is no unnecessary heat loss, as unfortunately happens with conventional gas heating. In general it can be said that with a gas condensing boiler you can save up to approximately 30% of energy.
Find a suitable installation location for the gas condensing boiler
A gas condensing boiler impresses with its compact design. Most condensing boilers are very space saving and fit into the tightest spaces, so fixing them to the wall is not a problem. An “invisible” installation would also be possible, for example in a cupboard in the bathroom or kitchen. The prerequisite is that the water inlet is not positioned too far away, so that the thermal bath can be connected directly without any additional technical effort.
Gas condensing boiler and its advantages
Condensing boilers can be used both in new buildings and as part of modernization measures. You can also run your gas condensing boiler on renewable biogas.
In any case it is necessary to demonstrate a certain percentage of renewable energy, so solar thermal energy in combination with gas heating is usually unavoidable. This makes this “type of heating” even more environmentally friendly, but increases purchase costs. We also have good news for all those who love underfloor heating. Radiant heating and gas condensing boilers ideally complement each other, as they can exploit their full potential with low flow and return temperatures. Gas condensing boilers are also a good choice for small to medium-sized heating or hot water needs and are therefore highly recommended in the construction of single-family homes. And last but not least, thanks to cutting-edge technology, condensing boilers are practically maintenance-free.
Gas condensing boiler, a good investment?

With a new gas condensing boiler you bring sophisticated technology into your home that won’t let you down so quickly. But here too, fossil fuels are mainly used and their era is coming to an end.
After the latest adjustments to the Energy Saving Ordinance, it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain a valid energy certificate with a gas condensing boiler as a heating system, let alone construct a building eligible for financing. The gas condensing boiler is still the economical entry-level option if a solar system is sufficient for the hot water supply and if you still want a ventilation system, otherwise it would be better to use another energy source.
As energy needs have steadily decreased in recent years due to improvements in building envelopes, heat pumps continue to advance as they can now exploit their potential.
