Even stars sometimes have daily worries. Mehmet Scholl, former national team footballer and television commentator, for example, had problems with the balcony door. He could no longer open it properly or close it tightly. As a result, drafts penetrated the Munich resident’s house. A new balcony door from Aluhaus helped. The Oknoplast aluminum brand stands for high quality Windows, house doors and balconieswhich are extremely robust and easy to maintain and convince with increased thermal insulation. Result: Scholl can now enjoy the view of the English Garden and Schwabing from his terrace again, without any worries.

As an active professional footballer, Mehmet Scholl lightly dribbled past his opponents. He had to make a little effort to open the old wooden balcony door in his Munich apartment. Because of Damage to the frame and a broken door hinge also prevented it from closing properly. Therefore it leaked water and repeatedly caused an annoying draft in the living rooms.

A replacement was therefore inevitable; The ideal would be to replace the old wooden door with a new one, more robust in terms of material and quality and with an excellent quality-price ratio. In the end the choice was easy for Mehmet Scholl and a French window from Aluhaus. The Oknoplast brand, one of the leading manufacturers of plastic and aluminum windows and doors in Europe, supplies sophisticated aluminum doors for house entrances, but also balcony doors and aluminum windows.

For the Scholl property, a double-leaf balcony door with a front design was created, measuring 209 x 227 centimetres. The aluminum frame with a depth of 75 millimeters comes from the system supplier Aliplast. Triple glazing with ESG safety glass on both sides (inside and outside) and an improved composite glass edge (warm edge) were installed. The balcony door therefore has optimized thermal insulation and excellent sound insulation. The U_w-The value is only 1.0 W/m²K. With its color traffic white matt RAL 9016 the door fits perfectly into the room with white wall paint and white slatted curtains. The aluminum frame is extremely easy to clean and less prone to dirt.

Including delivery, removal and installation, it took the window installers a total of 10 hours. An effort that was worth it, because the new balcony door is not only significantly more insulating than the previous model, but is also much easier to use. While the old wooden door with a dilapidated and outdated metal hinge could only be opened outwards, the Aluhaus door is equipped with Winkhaus fittings with a comfortable handle for inside and outside, which can be closed on both sides. And of course now the door opens inwards as light as a feather, so that you can walk on the terrace even in winter when there is snow.

Much to the delight of Mehmet Scholl, who surprisingly was much more relaxed than many other builders when it came to renovation work. “He is on top of things and was very relaxed,” said an impressed Willibald Kerschbaum, managing director of BEO Munich. Of course, those who have played in a European Championship and two Champions League finals in their career are not easily shaken by anything.

Since the new balcony door requires more space, the craftsmen had to create this space after removing the previous door. For this purpose they shortened the fold of the existing wooden frame from 60 to 30 millimeters deep.

A literally no easy feat: The craftsmen transport the new window sashes and the balcony door frame from Aluhaus, with a total weight of 158 kilograms, to the apartment on the 5th floor.

After installing the aluminum cover strips of the new balcony door, the craftsmen still had to seal the joints with silicone.

Satisfied homeowner: Mehmet Scholl’s new balcony door opens inwards instead of outwards. The football star’s terrace is finally accessible even when it snows. The excellent thermal insulation also ensures that there are no longer any annoying drafts.
